Well that’s some disturbing timing… After installing the upgrade to WP 2.6.1 I casually checked the download tally just because the friendly folks at WordPress let me, and lo and behold (click to see a full-sized version):

Isn’t that some amazing timing? No, I don’t mean the screen capture (virtual applause is welcomed though) but the release of 2.6.1 seemingly timed to coincide exactly with that number…

By the way, I’m glad I’m not hosting the WP releases! If my math combined with some iffy eyeballing isn’t too far off the mark, that number of 666,666 downloads represents well over 850 gigabytes worth of traffic…

Either way: congratulations to the team behind WordPress - and muchas gracias for keeping at it to provide us bloggers with such a premier open source blogging platform! (Now if only I’d do my bit to honor that effort with more worthwhile content on my behalf…)
